Teens Cooking Camp – Back to Basics

During this 5 day camp experience, your Teen Chef will participate in hands-on classes under the guidance of our expert Chef Instructors.  Knife skills are one of the most important parts of the culinary arts and used every time you create a recipe. Along with mastering knife and Kitchen skills your Teen will learn about kitchen equipment and the fundamentals of cooking.

MONDAY:

Campers will start out Monday with Knife skills and learn how to correctly hold a knife, knife sharpening, and learn about the very useful chef’s knife.  Teens will learn about kitchen safety, hygiene and terminology. Campers will learn to make a Classic Vegetable Frittata.

TUESDAY:

Campers will start out with learning about kitchen equipment  then basic knife skill cuts (taught using assorted vegetables) include: Julienne, Baton cut, Large dice, Medium dice, Small dice, brunoise and to chiffonade. To properly cut an onion and shallot, To properly and safely use a mandolin.  Campers will enjoy making Summer Gazpacho Soup.

WEDNESDAY:

Campers will learn sauce skills.  Sauces are the backbone of classic cooking; once your Teen has mastered some of the basic sauces their cooking confidence will take a massive leap forward.  Campers will create a Classic Penne alla Vodka.

THURSDAY:

Campers will learn the basic introduction to pastry and baking skills.  Campers will master Crème Brulee.

FRIDAY:

Campers will complete the week with Intro to Cake decorating and learn to use a Pastry Bag, Frost a cake, make Buttercream Frosting, Cake leveling and learn how to operate a Stand Mixer.  Campers will gain the confidence to create a 3-Layer Mini Cake to take home

What you will get with each class:

With each hands-on cooking class at Chef’s Emporium, not only will you receive the instruction of one of our experienced and certified chefs, you will also get copies of all the original recipes used during the class.

Minimum enrollment must be met for classes to be held and that number is set based on each individual class, please inquire when registering.

Chef’s classes are 2 hours in length, unless otherwise stated

Depending on class size, you may either work individually or in groups

After each course, you will enjoy the food you have prepared.

All class participants receive a 10% discount on in-store purchases the day of their class
